Community Orchard
We are fortunate indeed in Dartmouth to have a Community Orchard. The 3.5 acre recreational space is situated at the top of Ridge Hill, between College Way and Mount Boone and overlooks the Britannia Royal Naval College and the River.
It is a beautiful place to visit for picnics, dog walks, family outings, or just quiet contemplation, as the views are breathtaking. It is also an important site for wildlife conservation, with several areas set aside for animals and insects to make their home. You are more than welcome to come and pick some of the apples from the many trees in the Autumn, but please leave some for other people!
The Orchard also continues to be used for tree pruning demonstrations, advertised in the Orchard Link, a local magazine for those who own orchards.
The Council would really like to encourage everyone to make use of this green space – families, individuals, youngsters, schools and youth organisations. It is a fantastic hideaway for a ‘time out’ or ‘close reflection’ and so peaceful. If there is anything we can do to assist your visit, please let us know.
