FAVOURITE PLACE IN DARTMOUTH?

The bench overlooking the river on Jawbones Hill. Breathtaking views and a brief rest from the hike whilst my spaniel amuses herself chasing everything and nothing.

MOST TREASURED POSSESSION?

After my wife, Helen and my spaniel it would have to be my St. Christopher, given to me by my mother when I was 16 and worn every day since.

Shine. Most amazing portrayal of an incredible talent almost lost to the world. If you don’t cry you’re not human.

ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE YOUR 18 YEAR OLD SELF?

Your life will take a million turns, often in unforeseen directions, sometimes at a moment’s notice. But that is OK. It is the way of things. Just try to enjoy the adventure whilst it lasts.

HOW DID YOU END UP IN DARTMOUTH?

Cream first, as deep as you dare so you can create a crater in it to fill with loads of jam.

PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT?

Reaching Everest Base Camp 4 years after open heart surgery.

MOST EMBARASSING MOMENT?

Breaking down on the M40 whilst on my way to a fancy-dress party in Oxford dressed as a cactus. To make it worse, neither the policeman who stopped or the AA guy could actually guess what I was supposed to going as.

EAT IN OR DINE OUT?

Either. Eating generally is quite a hobby, as long as I didn’t have to make it. I’m no chef. Ask Helen.

EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL?

Used to be a night owl, but more and more I’m enjoying an early night.

BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN DARTMOUTH?

Its community.

Meals with friends, sunshine in the evening and days off with Helen & the dog.
